I left to move to the UK in February 2017, originally intending to reside for several years there, however I now wish to return to Canada. I rented out my Canadian condo and remitted the 25% Non-resident tax. The lease expires at year-end. ...should I return before year-end, and if I do am I resident in Canada the whole year or can I be part-year non-resident?
I recommend that you return to Canada after the year-end. If you return in 2017, it will complicate your tax filing situation. This is because you cannot become a non-resident and a returning resident in the same tax year.
