Hi there!
I'm curious about any issues with taxes as a dual American-Canadian citizen working for a U.S. company remotely for a few months.
My permanent address and relatives all reside in the U.S. and I am not planning to stay more than 3 months in Canada. I work 100% remotely and will be staying at an Airbnb in Canada.
If I have no Canadian bank accounts and continue to get paid to my U.S. bank account, I assume that I only have to file my U.S. taxes as usual since I would not be considered a resident of Canada. Is that correct?
Thanks!
If you resided in Canada for less than 6 months, and your employer does not have a fixed place of business in Canada and the salary was not charged back to a Canadian subsidiary of the US employer, you do not have to pay tax in Canada on your US employment income. This is according to the Canada-US tax treaty.
