My wife and I are non-residents and had filed T1159 returns for last few years because of a rental property we owned in Canada (we got NR6 every year) - in mid-2023, our tenants left the apartment and my wife visited canada for second half of year to get apartment renovated but it is sitting empty currently- does this impact our T1159 returns or do we file as we do normally and just show rental income for the period the rental unit was occupied?
Hi Zeeshan,
Report the actual rent collected in the year and the taxes remitted based on the rent collection. Expenses for the whole year can be deducted if you make reasonable efforts to rent the unit.
