Hi Allan. Me and my husband got the PR of Canada and we did the soft landing for 15 days in August 2016. After that we both were working in Dubai for year last 2 years and now finally in March 2019, we moved to Canada. Please suggest will there be any tax implications on funds transfer from Dubai to Canada. Would also like to add that back in year 2016, my husband opened a bank account in Canada.

Thank you for your questions. For the 2016 tax year, neither you nor your husband have to file a Canadian tax return. This is because you were not factual residents of Canada in 2016. As of March 2019, you and your husband became tax residents of Canada because you both permanently moved to Canada at that time. You can repatriate your funds (savings) from Dubai to Canada without the payment of Canadian taxes on the amount transferred because these savings were accumulated during your period of non-residency with Canada.
